24 October 2018 -- Copenhagen -- The African Union Advisory Board on Corruption and Transparency
International signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation commitment to the fight
against corruption. The MOU renews a partnership agreement that was concluded in 2015 and came to an
end in 2018. The signing ceremony took place at the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC)
held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Hosted by Huguette Labelle, Chairperson of the IACC, the signing ceremony was witnessed by Charity
Hanene Nchimunya, Executive Secretary of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption and Delia
Ferreira Rubio, Chairperson of Transparency International. Hon. Begoto Miarom, Chairperson of the African
Union Advisory Board on Corruption and Patricia Moreira, Managing Director of Transparency International
signed the MOU on behalf of their respective parties.
The major thrust of the MoU is to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the African Union
Advisory Board on Corruption and Transparency International in the areas of advocacy, research, capacity
development, awareness raising and outreach.
“This agreement builds on the amazing work we have done with Transparency International in mapping the
implementation of commitments to anti-corruption norms on the Continent. The conclusion of this agreement
also comes at an opportune moment following the dedication of 2018 as the African Anti-Corruption Year”
stated Mrs. Nchimunya.
“We welcome the opportunity to strengthen our commitment with the African Union to fight corruption in
the region,” said Ms. Moreira. “Particularly in the current global climate, improving space for civil society
to speak out and have a seat at the political table is critically important. Together, with the African Union
and our chapters, we can renew our efforts to promote transparency, improve good governance and strengthen
anti-corruption systems throughout Africa.”
