Demise of AUABC Board Member - Hon. Jean-Claude Bizimana

The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption is saddened to announce the passing away of one of its’ Board Members and Rapporteur, Hon. Jean-Claude Bizimana who passed away on 13th March, 2023 in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. 

The AUABC wishes to express its profound sadness on the great loss of a distinguished leader and a committed crusader in the fight against corruption, not only in the Republic of Burundi, but also on the continent. Hon. Bizimana had been a member of the Board since February 2021 and had just been re-elected to serve a second term in the recently concluded 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union in February 2023.

Hon. Bizimana will be long remembered for the role he played in the process of improving the working methods of our continental body and his unrelenting efforts to fight corruption on the continent during which he also remained committed in his work in Burundi as a leading champion against corruption even in his most recent role as Secretary General of the African Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies.

The African Union Advisory Board against Corruption and the entire African Union fraternity extend their heartfelt condolences to Hon. Bizimana’s family and loved ones, friends, colleagues as well as the Government and people of the Republic of Burundi.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
