In delivering her statement during the Ministerial Meeting, Hon. Diakhate reaffirmed the African Union’s support to the three priorities of the G20 Brazilian Presidency, which are: social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; energy transition and the promotion of sustainable development in its economic, social and environmental dimensions; and reform of global governance institutions. These priorities are in sync and relate to the African Union Agenda 2063 as expressed in the seven aspirations. She further expressed the special importance that AU attaches to efforts towards the fight against corruption and the recovery of assets before highlighting the need for promoting collaboration, capacity building and policy development to enhance African countries’ ability to combat illicit financial flows and recover stolen assets with the aim to strengthen governance, promote transparency and ensure that recovered assets are returned to affected populations of countries of origin.

The AU congratulated the Republic of South Africa for assuming the G20 Presidency and expressed commitment to closely work with South Africa on their joint priorities.

At both meetings, the G20 Members reaffirmed their commitment to a just and fair world through combatting corruption and a Ministerial Declaration was adopted under the sub-theme, ‘Contributing to a Just World and a Sustainable Planet through Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion’.
