The African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) officially inducted its new Board Members during a swearing-in ceremony held at its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, on 16th June 2025. The ceremony, conducted under the guidance of the Office of the Legal Counsel of the African Union, marked an important moment in reinforcing the continent's commitment to good governance and accountability.
The Board Members were elected by the African Union Executive Council in February 2025 during the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (EX.CL/ Dec.1279 - 1309(XLVI)). A total of 5 Board members took an oath of office, two members were re-elected for a second term, and three were elected for their first term.
The newly sworn-in Board Members are:
Hon. Edem Kwami Senanu from Ghana, elected for the second term
Hon. Yvonne Mutepuka Chibiya from Zambia, elected for a second term
Hon. Benjamin Kiunsi Kapera from Tanzania, elected for the first term
Hon. Absatou Ly Diallo from Senegal, elected for the first term
Hon. Graciano Franscisco Domingos from Angola, elected for the first term
The Board members who recently took the oath of office will serve on the AUABC board for a term of six years. The newly inducted members bring diverse expertise and dedication to the AUABC's vital mandate of preventing and combating corruption across Africa. Their induction is a testament to the African Union's ongoing efforts to strengthen institutions and foster a culture of transparency.
Following the solemn swearing-in, the new Board Members participated in an essential orientation session on the AUABC's structure, mandate, and strategic priorities. This foundational briefing ensures that the incoming members are well-equipped to immediately contribute to the Board's critical work.
Further, the Board Members proceeded to elect the new Bureau to serve for two years, and the following were elected.
Board Chairperson: Hon. Edem Kwami Senanu from Ghana
Vice Board Chairperson: Hon. Yvonne Mutepuka Chibiya from Zambia
Rapportuer: Hon. Principe Ntibasume from Burundi
The outgoing Chairperson of the African Union Advisory Board against Corruption, Hon. Seynabou Ndiaye Diakhate, congratulated the new Board Members on their election and on successfully taking the oath of office. In her remarks, the AUABC Chairperson stated that the New Board members should be ready to work for Africa and fight corruption. She also indicated that fighting corruption is a difficult undertaking, and the new Board should work to yield results. She concluded by wishing the new board members success.
